THE EXTENDED FAMILY IN CHILE: A RECOGNITION OF THE ROLE OF GRANDPARENTS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE CHILD

Summary

The constitution of the family has changed considerably in recent decades, giving way to new forms of family as a result of the role changes that its members have experienced in society. The matrimonial conception of the family, composed of a father, a mother and their children, has been surpassed, which has meant a challenge for our legal system, in order to recognize this new social reality. In this context and from the legal area, the notion of the extended family arises with an intense participation of grandparents in the role of upbringing, whose content we intend to study in this research. Thus, the work will address the notion of family and institutions that give legal recognition to grandparents.
