Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Revista de Derecho welcomes original scholarly contributions in the field of law and related areas of legal studies. The journal accepts research articles, doctrinal and theoretical studies, comparative legal research, case analyses, and other scholarly contributions that are relevant to contemporary legal scholarship. Submissions should make a clear academic contribution to the field, demonstrate sound methodology or legal reasoning, and be written in a clear, coherent, and academically appropriate style.

Manuscripts submitted to the journal must be original and must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the submitted work is their own and that all sources, quotations, legislation, judicial decisions, and other materials used in the manuscript are appropriately acknowledged and referenced. Any form of plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabrication, or inappropriate use of sources is unacceptable.

Manuscripts should normally include a clear and informative title, author name(s), institutional affiliation(s), and contact information, followed by an abstract and appropriate keywords. The main text should be logically structured with suitable headings and subheadings. Research articles should clearly present the research problem, objectives, relevant literature or legal background, methodology or analytical approach where applicable, discussion, and conclusions. Tables, figures, legal documents, and other supporting materials should be appropriately numbered and referred to within the text.

Authors should use a consistent academic citation and referencing style throughout the manuscript. All sources cited in the text must be included in the reference list, and every reference listed should correspond to a citation in the manuscript. Legal authorities, legislation, regulations, court decisions, books, journal articles, websites, and other sources should be cited accurately and consistently. Authors are responsible for checking the accuracy and completeness of their references before submission.

Manuscripts should be carefully edited for language, grammar, clarity, and presentation before submission. Where a manuscript is submitted in a language other than the journal’s principal language, authors should ensure that it has been professionally reviewed for linguistic accuracy. The journal may request revisions where the language or presentation substantially affects the readability or scholarly quality of the manuscript.

All submissions are subject to editorial screening and peer review. The editorial team may initially assess manuscripts for relevance to the journal’s scope, originality, academic quality, and compliance with these guidelines. Manuscripts considered suitable for further consideration will be sent for peer review in accordance with the journal’s established review procedure. Authors may be required to revise their manuscripts in response to reviewers’ and editors’ comments before a final publication decision is made.

Authors should disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest that could influence the research or its interpretation. Where research involves human participants, personal data, or other ethical considerations, authors must ensure compliance with applicable ethical standards and obtain the necessary approvals or consents where required. Any funding or institutional support related to the research should also be disclosed.

The journal encourages responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence and other digital tools in academic writing and research. AI tools may assist authors with language improvement, formatting, or other permitted research-support activities, but authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, integrity, and intellectual content of their manuscripts. AI-generated material should not be presented as the author’s original scholarly contribution, and any substantive use of AI in preparing the manuscript should be disclosed where appropriate.

Submission of a manuscript implies that all listed authors have made a genuine contribution to the work and have approved the final version submitted for publication. Changes to authorship after submission should only be made with the agreement of all authors and approval of the editorial team. The corresponding author is responsible for communicating with the journal and ensuring that all authors are informed about the submission and publication process.

By submitting a manuscript, authors agree to comply with the journal’s editorial, ethical, and peer-review policies. The final decision regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection rests with the editorial team. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal’s basic academic or submission requirements may be returned to authors for correction or may be declined without external peer review.

Privacy Statement

Revista de Derecho respects the privacy of authors, reviewers, readers, editors, and other users of the journal website. Any personal information collected through the journal’s website or submission and editorial systems is used only for legitimate journal-related purposes, including manuscript submission and processing, peer review, editorial communication, publication, and maintenance of appropriate academic records.

Personal information such as names, institutional affiliations, email addresses, and other contact details provided during submission or registration will be handled responsibly and will not be sold, rented, or disclosed to third parties for commercial purposes. Such information may be shared with editors, reviewers, and authorized journal personnel when necessary for the editorial and peer-review process.

The journal takes reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, misuse, alteration, disclosure, or loss. Authors and reviewers are expected to respect the confidentiality of information obtained through the editorial and peer-review process and must not use or disclose unpublished manuscript content for personal or professional purposes.

Where personal information is included in a published article, such information may become part of the permanent scholarly record and may be publicly accessible through the journal website and indexing services. Users should therefore ensure that manuscripts submitted to the journal contain only personal information that is appropriate and necessary for publication.

The journal may collect limited technical information, such as IP addresses, browser information, and website usage data, where necessary for website security, system administration, and improving journal services. Such information will be handled in accordance with applicable privacy and data protection requirements.

By registering with the journal, submitting a manuscript, reviewing an article, or otherwise using the journal’s services, users acknowledge and agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Statement. The journal may update this statement from time to time to reflect changes in its practices, legal requirements, or editorial systems.
